We thought giving our kiddos a small allowance (25 cents a week) would teach them the value of money, and the pride of ownership after saving for something special.

Perhaps our idealism has backfired.

I found this under Jonathan’s pillow this week:

The tooth fairy did pause to consider whether the look on a 7-year-old’s face, on waking to $100 worth of quarters under his pillow, might actually be worth the expense of said quarters. But she chickened out.

She politely responded, in her fancy pink handwriting, that she was only a fairy and how could she possibly carry around such large amounts of money while flying? She hoped he would be content with the shiniest quarter from her bag.
