As I sorted through last week’s photos, images capturing the moments when my heart sang with gratitude, I noticed that I had more than usual. At first, I thought this was odd. Last week a friend’s family was struck with immense grief, and a bit of her sorrow overshadowed my own heart. I was heavy with sadness.
But then I realized that with this shadow on my heart, my moments of thankfulness shone all the more by comparison. I was mining my days deeply and fervently, sifting my moments to find the treasures. And since I was mining deeper than usual, of course, I produced more treasure.
Here, some of the ones I numbered.
